The organization we want to have is a consequence of the type of product, the moment of the company and the objectives.

Factors for defining it

We need to evaluate some factors before defining our organizational models.

Product type

If the product is lineal and is built by parts, a car for example, every worker has its own individual responsibility on the project.

On the other hand, the product is built from the grouped knowledge of different individuals.

Type of client

Internet websites are based on Business 2 Clients model. Company offers a solution to the client (exponential growth).

In model Business 2 Business it may happen that we have multiple products to elaborate (linear growth).

Specialization grade

It is not the same a product that has a common knowledge that one with very specific knowledge needed. How easy is a profile to assume different positions will define which organizational model will we choose.

Aligned with all departments

Other departments organizational models will affect all the company.

Bus / Lottery factor

Avoid bus factor, when a person that has all the knowledge doesn't belong anymore to the team.

If bus factor is low (with just 1 person leaving) company suffers. If bus factor is high (needed 4 or 5 people to leave) company has a better resilience in front of workers rotation, delivery and therefore profit.

maximizing bus factor

Role rotating allows that if a role is rotating between different coworkers help to empower and grow the team.
Rotating people at company level is a good methodology, where coworkers with similar roles can assume the position of other one.
